Denver Adult Strings Camp just turned 5! Join us in celebrating our (Perfect) 5th Anniversary this summer with an action-packed session. We are welcoming back beloved staff, as well as some brand new faces, and revisiting some of our most highly rated workshops.
DASC Symphony Summer Session is 7-9:30pm TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS July 7th - July 30th!
Two orchestra levels:
WILLOW - For intermediate and rising intermediate players. This experience includes orchestra rehearsals as well as part specific sectionals with a coach. Directed by Olasuyi Ige.
ROSEWOOD - For advanced and rising advanced players. This experience includes orchestra rehearsals as well as part specific sectionals with a coach. Directed by Ryan Woodworth.
DASC welcomes violin, viola, cello, and double bass musicians. Whether you used to play in grade school or just started learning in the past few years - DASC has a spot for you! No audition required.
Location: All rehearsals will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, CO
Concert: Saturday, August 1st at Mapleton Arts Center.
Dress rehearsals begin at 1pm MT; concert starts at 3pm, with a reception to follow.
Willow and Rosewood Pricing: $372/participant
Includes all rehearsals, coachings, concert, sheet music, pre-rehearsal workshops, pencil, folder,
and camp t-shirt.
Drop-in workshops - These optional workshops are free to registered campers and open to non-registered campers via Workshop Pass available on the website shop!
Tuesday, July 14th, 6-7pm| Self Care for Musicians w/ Angie Parris
This session will cover stretches for musicians before playing with the goal of opening the body to play more openly and fluidly! Angie Parris, a licensed massage therapist and yoga teacher, is Chopra Center Certified in meditation, Ayurvedic lifestyle, and total well-being coaching. Her training explores physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. You can see Angie in the Meditate & Move daily self-care video series from Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.
Thursday, July 16th, 6-7pm | Instrument Care & Maintenance w/ Chris Luther Learn about instrument care and maintenance with Chris Luther from Luther Strings! Topics may include how to safely and confidently change strings, break in/warm up new strings, what Coloradan musicians need to know about our dry climate and how to keep our instruments safely humidified, how tight a bow should actually be, when to rehair, etc. Dr. Christopher Luther is president and owner of Luther Strings and a teaching artist.
Tuesday, July 21st, 6-7pm | Ensemble Essentials: What's the Conductor Doing? w/ Joe Engel This workshop will review the fundamentals of what players should know about conducting and how to follow. Explore topics like the basics of conducting motions, what to watch for, the impact of conducting on different interpretations of how the music is played, and what the ictus is and why it matters. Joe Engel is a Denver-based cellist, educator, and musical explorer active throughout the Front Range
Thursday, July 23rd, 6-7pm | Fiddle Workshop - Learn a Tune by Ear! with Chris Luther Dr. Christopher Luther, president and owner of Luther Strings, returns to guide DASC participants through ear training basics, such as through instruction of a fiddle tune.
